My First White Tail
I carved this for my father on Christmas 1994.  The pattern was from a book by Mary Duke Gulden. The wood is laminated butternut, and the antlers and ears are seperate pieces.  I reccommend her books highly, especially for beginners.  The patterns are in layers, and are intended to be cut from 1" stock and glued together to form the blank.  This thickness of wood is easier to come by, and can be cut out with a scroll saw which is probably more accessable than a band saw.
